Today I want to share something very meaningful to me. I have written this piece of prose years ago, in French. I translated it recently and I still feel at peace when I read it. When I share it with someone, … Read more

Coach Dolbec: Through life coaching, a client uses his actual strengths to set himself an itinerary oriented towards his personal goals and compatible with his own values and needs.
Client (you): Mmmm? Sir? Where is the coach in there?
Coach Dolbec: Right by his client my friend! Let me introduce you to what it is like to work with a life coach.
Any athlete will tell you: to work with a coach is hard work. As your coach stands there and looks at you, he will make you move, run, lift heavy things, anything helping him to find your strengths. Then he will give you some routines to follow. Moreover, when it becomes easy, he will make it harder to complete the next time. On a regular basis, he will ask you to do things consistent with your progression towards a goal. Those tasks or assignments will not always be fun to do. If you put your heart to this work, you will improve over time though.
Working with a life coach is not different. It is hard work. As an athlete could not become a champion if he just listened to what his coach tells him to do, a client could not progress towards his personal goals by reading instructions or listening to whatever the coach has to say. Like an athlete, a client has to do the work for the coaching process to be successful. Therefore, to work with a life coach is to commit yourself over time. Let me explain.
Look at the highlights in this sentence: “Through life coaching, a client uses his actual strengths to set an itinerary oriented towards his personal goals and compatible with his own values and needs.”
If I ask you:
As your coach, I will explore these things with you. It takes time and some brain sweat to find the answers; I will propose ways to explore these matters where you will feel challenged without being overwhelmed. In addition, you will have to keep moving between our conversations through new assignments you will agree to complete at the end of each session. This will help you to build confidence in your own success by progressing throughout an itinerary compatible with who you are.
Do not worry. Like any assignment, it will be challenging just to do it. During the process, you will certainly ask: “why did I put myself through that?” Personal change is always a challenging process and it rarely occurs in one night. If so, it is usually through a very unpleasant experience. It is definitively not what I am offering to you. To me, to have fun is a serious business!
In order to keep it easy and convenient, the whole process is usually done through an internet session, using Skype. It is compatible with both Mac and Pc and allows face-to-face meetings, plus screen and document sharing. Which is great when comes the time to explain concepts and to send assignments we just agreed on. It also works on your smartphone if you are away from your computer. The best of it is that it is free to use, as long as you don’t use it through cellular wireless connection. So make sure you use it through Wi-fi connection or on your computer actually connected to internet.
You can chose to use regular phone, but you are responsible for the fees.
However, before any commitment, contact me for a free exploration session. This session is 45 to 60 minutes long and it has three objectives:
So, are you ready for coaching?
